In June 2022, Wine Lister’s long-standing client, Philippe Chandon-Moët, co-owner of Château de Ferrand alongside his wife, Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët, joined us for a tour of some of southern England’s top merchants and university societies – introducing the estate to current and future generations of the UK fine wine trade.
With a roadshow agenda carefully curated by Wine Lister, Philippe’s first day comprised meetings with a handful of London’s key fine wine merchants, after which he travelled to Oxford for a tasting with the Oxford University Wine Society. He shared with students six vintages between 2012 (the year that Château de Ferrand became a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé) and 2019 (the latest vintage in bottle at the time).
As advised by and rehearsed with Wine Lister, Philippe encouraged students to compare the older vintages with the 2019 in order to see the developments at the estate – an exercise that worked well in highlighting the changes made since Pauline and he took over the château in 2005, including an expansive replanting programme and total renovation of the winemaking facilities.

We headed up to Cambridge thereafter to visit a target retailer, followed by a workshop with the University of Cambridge’s Wine Society. Philippe was particularly proud to share with guests the 2018 and 2019 vintages, which marked the culmination of his and Pauline’s efforts at the estate – though reminding the trade and collectors of tomorrow that the best is indeed yet to come.
