Wine Lister was approached at the end of 2021 by Sara Lecompte Cuvelier and her team at Château Léoville Poyferré to organise a London event to celebrate the Cuvelier family’s 100th vintage at the property. The limited-edition 2020 bottle, with gold engravings to celebrate the centennial vintage, was due for release the following November (2022), and our role was to create industry noise around the vintage, while reconnecting the Léoville Poyferré team with key figures from the UK market.

Wine Lister started by curating a strategy plan for an engaging and interactive four-part event, focused around an immersive exhibition dedicated to the Cuveliers’ 100-year journey in winemaking. With various tasting sessions throughout the day, followed by a group dinner, all activities were focused around the series of installations - with each guest given a tour of the “walk-through” exhibition, showcasing key moments in the history of the estate.

Following the scouting of various multi-room venues in central London, Wine Lister secured 19 Greek Street (a five-storey townhouse in London’s Soho), which it transformed into a dedicated exhibition space at the end of 2022. Guests arrived to find a quote from Sara on the wall of the entrance hall for them to muse over as they waited for their tour. Their first port of call was the “vineyard room”, with gravel floors to evoke Léoville Poyferré’s terroir, and projections of the estate’s vineyards to transport them to its precious plots. The “family room” was transformed into the Cuveliers’ salon, while a large-scale timeline vinyl printed onto the wall told the story of the family’s history. The “tasting room” occupied the upper floor, and hosted a series of group tastings (with journalists and sommeliers) throughout the day, while the “dining room” hosted a dinner with 30 leading merchants in the evening.

Throughout the organisation, Wine Lister liaised with, amongst others, production companies, caterers, furniture hire agencies, florists, vinyl illustrators, and a photographer, as well as creating, dispatching, and monitoring all guest invitations. Ahead of the day, we conducted rehearsals with Sara and Léoville Poyferré’s winemaker, Isabelle Davin, and were present throughout the event to ensure that it ran smoothly, acting as brand ambassadors for the estate.
